WELCOME TO MOTHER'S DEMAND ACTION

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, MDA will no longer hold monthly in person meetings. In September 2020, MDA will explore hosting monthly meetings virtually. We pray everyone stays healthy and safe during these challenging times.

Our Mission

Mothers Demand Action (MDA) is a 501(c) (3) non profit organization. The mission of MDA is to provide support to families and enlightenment to the local community in the City of New Haven and surrounding towns that have been affected by gun violence.

Our Goals

MDA’s first goal is to provide emotional supprt for families of gun violence in the city of New Haven through the means of prayer vigils and community outreach events.

MDA’s second goal is to enlighten the City of New Haven by hosting a variety of fundraiser and community events aimed at bringing awareness and solutions to the gun violence present in our communities.

OUR COMMUNITY

The Hamden/New Haven area communites have be afflicted with gun violence in recent years below are excerts from the New Haven Register:

-According to the New Haven Register “It was another tough year for the city as 2013 brought 20 homicides and 67 shootings, with victims ranging from 18-year-old high school students to a 55-year-old store clerk”.

-“Of the 20 homicides in 2013, 18 victims died from gunshot wounds (often caused by a handgun); one victim was stabbed and one was bludgeoned”.

-“A 16-year-old resident died early Friday at Yale-New Haven Hospital after he was shot in the head Thursday night in the Hill neighborhood, police said”.

Mothers Demand Action 1st Annual Peace Walk

On Saturday, June 7, 2014, Mother's Demand Action held it's 1st Annual Peace Walk. This non- violent demostration was a direct response to the raise of gun violence within the local New Haven/ Hamden communities.

Organizer and founder of Mother's Demand Action, Kim Washington, believes hosting more events of this nature will increase community awareness and help to bring an end to gun violence within the community. Read More........
