Founder & President of Mother's Demand Action

 

Kim Washington is a passionate leader, educator, and community activist. A native of Hamden, Connecticut, Kim has over twenty years of experience mentoring, teaching, and motivating students with special needs. Her passions include assisting others in need, working with teenagers, and community involvement.  

 

In response to the countless acts of gun violence in her community, Kim embarked on creating a positive change. Utilizing her passions for assisting others in need and community involvement, Kim founded the non-profit organization Mother's Demand Action (MDA) in 2013. MDA is an organization committed to providing support and encouragement to families affected by gun violence within the local New Haven/Hamden, Connecticut communities.

 

In her spare time Kim enjoys listening to music, reading, shopping, and traveling. She enjoys spending time with her family, especially her father Douglas, two brothers Curtis and Tyrone, and her nieces and nephews as well as extended family.  

 

 

Lynette Lobo Hazelwood is a Hamden, Connecticut native. As a committed single mother of two, Lynette was inspired to join MDA because she believes our youth are dying at an alarming rate, especially to gun violence. Lynette is committed to serving in MDA to help increase community awareness and bring an end to gun violence within her community. In her spare time, Lynette enjoys spending time with her children and being actively involved in the lives of others.

Toni Foreman is a resident of Hamden, Connecticut. As a wonderful mother of three children, Toni enjoys encouraging and helping others in need. Toni was inspired to join Mother's Demand Action to help increase community awareness surrounding gun violence in her community.

 

Toni firmly believes parents need to be actively involved in the lives of their children.  She also realizes it takes “a village to raise a child” to ensure they are successful in life. Therefore, Toni stays actively involved in promoting positivity within her local community. In her spare time Toni enjoys spending time with her immediate family and grand children. Toni also enjoys traveling, baking, and bowling.

Monica Haith is a native of Hamden, Connecticut. As a compassionate single mother of two, Monica was motivated to join Mother’s Demand Action (MDA) to help increase community awareness involving gun violence. Monica has a passion for helping others and prides on herself on being a positive role model within her community. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family especially her two boys Christopher and Avery.

Rose Williamson is a passionate mother and native New Haven, Connecticut. She was inspired to join MDA to help make a difference in her community and as well raise awareness involving gun violence. Rose is passionate about helping others in need and firmly believes it is vital to be involved in her community. In her spare time, Rose enjoys encouraging others and spending time with her family. 

Adrienne Senior is a Hamden, Connecticut resident. Adrienne joined Mother’s Demand Action to be part of an organization that will help bring an end to gun violence. As a woman of Faith, Adrienne identifies with MDA’s monthly prayer vigils. She believes prayer changes things and she is committed to helping increase awareness surrounding gun violence within her local community. Adrienne’s motto is “It takes a village to raise a child”.

Nikiah Payne is a native of West Haven, Connecticut. As a committed single mother, Nikiah was inspired to join MDA because she believes African American youth are dying at an alarming rate, especially to gun violence. Nikiah is committed to serving in MDA to help increase community awareness and bring an end to gun violence. In her spare time, Nikiah enjoys spending time with her children and traveling.

Erika McLean-Nixon is resident of New Haven Connecticut. Erika currently works at IPP for the State of Connecticut, Youth Continuum, and the Hart Foundation. Erika enjoys helping and encouraging others. She was motivated to join Mother’s Demand Action because Erika firmly believes no mother, aunt, and or grandmother should have to bury their children to any act of violence. As a loving mother of six children, Erika enjoys spending time with her family and has inspired all six of her children to pursue higher education.

Carolyn Warren, is a native of New Haven, Connecticut. As a committed mother and Grandmother, Carolyn

was inspired to join MDA because she desired to get involved with an organization committed to spreading awareness for the reduction of gun violence in New Haven. In her spare time, Carolyn loves spending time with her children and extend family.
